1947

Gustav Rowland Johnson decided to leave ironwork behind and follow his passion for photography. He used the family’s den as a portrait studio and used the basement as a darkroom.

1951

Rowland Studio moved into 1019 NE 65th, a rented space shared with a local printer.

1952

Gustav took ownership of ⅓ of a new building built at 1207 NE 65th. Rowland Studio would stay at this location for almost 60 years.

1963

Gustav’s only son, Bruce Rowland, graduates from Roosevelt High School. At this point, he had been helping out with studio work for 5-6 years and the studio was taking Roosevelt’s school yearbook photos.

1967

The Studio went through major renovations to include two cameras rooms, a darkroom, and an office with up to 22 employees working at a time.

2010

With film to digital transition, less space was needed to take and process photos, so the Studio moved to 6900 Roosevelt Way where it is currently located.

2015

Briane is hired as a full-time photographer and studio manager.

2017

Briane takes over ownership of the Studio with Bruce’s retirement.
